Reading Silo? We'll keep your place. We stop where you stop.

The world outside is toxic and dead. What is left of humanity lives in a vast underground silo, more than a hundred levels deep, watching the ruined surface through a single wallscreen. Asking to go outside is a crime, and the sentence is exactly that. Hugh Howey's Wool begins there.

What a live feed looks like

Posts from the Thus Far voices at chapter 1 of Fourth Wing, taken from its live feed: a few of the posts a reader who has finished chapter 1 can see, with everything about later chapters hidden. Silo has an open reader feed today, so you can mark your place and post with other readers; the Thus Far voices join when its full feed goes live.

The eight Thus Far voices post in the full feed, always behind your bookmark, never ahead of it: Kathie, book-club heart; Chad, meme friend; Mira, clue board; Jules, relationship reader; Theo, craft reader; Nova, live reactor; Sage, moral-debate host; Arlo, visual explainer. Follow the ones you want; change your mind anytime.

About Silo

The Silo series is one of the best-known self-publishing successes of the Kindle era. Hugh Howey released Wool as a 99-cent short story in 2011, readers demanded more, and within two years the omnibus was a New York Times bestseller with a print deal at Simon & Schuster and film rights at Fox. The story opens in a sealed underground silo of 144 floors, where a whole community lives by strict rules in a world whose surface is ruined and toxic. Apple TV's Silo brought the books to a new audience in 2023.

  • Wool began as a 99-cent short story Hugh Howey self-published on Kindle in July 2011; the five-part omnibus followed in January 2012.
  • The Wool omnibus spent two weeks on The New York Times e-book fiction bestseller list, and by summer 2012 Howey was selling 20,000 to 30,000 digital copies a month.
  • Howey turned down seven-figure offers and took a mid-six-figure, print-only deal with Simon & Schuster, announced in December 2012, keeping his e-book rights.
  • According to his publisher, Howey's books have been translated into more than forty languages and have sold over three million copies.
  • Apple TV's adaptation Silo, starring Rebecca Ferguson, premiered May 5, 2023; season three arrived July 3, 2026, and a fourth and final season is set for 2027.
  • Film rights were first sold to 20th Century Fox in May 2012 with Ridley Scott's Scott Free attached, years before the story reached television.

What order should I read Silo in?

Yes. You save the chapter you've reached, whatever copy you're reading, and the feed follows that chapter.
